Step 1: Check Eligibility

1-1. Non-Korean

Both Parents hold non-Korean passports and are not ethnically Korean
- Front and back copies of valid Alien Registration Card, Diplomatic ID, SOFA, Domestic residence card

 

1-2. Korean Ethnic

One or both parents hold non-Korean passports and one or both parents are ethnically Korean
- Front and back copies of valid Alien Registration Card, Diplomatic ID, SOFA, Domestic residence card
- Recent Korean Family Registry under the applicant’s name or Deleted Family Census Registry

 

1-3. Korean Citizens

Both parents are Korean citizens (including dual citizenship) or the child is a Korean citizen (including dual citizenship)
- Recent Korean Family Registry under the applicant’s name
- Recent Certificate of the Facts Concerning the Entry and Exit for the applicant issued by the Immigration
Office

: The Certificate issued should be inclusive from birth to the present date.
: If an applicant has dual citizenship, a certificate for each passport is required.


1) 3 years (over 1095 days) requirement
The admissions team will review your child's application once your child has met the three years (1095 days)
requirement.


2) 6 semesters requirement
- Official report cards/ transcripts showing completion of 6 semesters from school(s) abroad
- Official certificate of attendance from school(s) abroad

: Official school records may only be emailed directly by the school(s) to apply@yisseoul.org
: The admissions team will review your child's application once your child has completed 6 semesters.

 

1-4. Transfer Student

Transfer student who has remained in an international school in Korea with no breaks under past eligibility
- Official letter from the current school indicating that the applicant was enrolled before March 1, 2010
- Eligibility documents and transcripts supporting the letter above
- Recent Korean Family Registry under the applicant’s name

 

1-5. Naturalized Korean Citizens

Transfer student who has remained in an international school in Korea with no breaks under past eligibility
- Official letter from the current school indicating that the applicant was enrolled before March 1, 2010
- Eligibility documents and transcripts supporting the letter above
- Recent Korean Family Registry under the applicant’s name

 

Step 2: Gather Required Documents

Photo - Applicant’s photo of high quality, taken within the last six months
- Recommended sizes are 2x2 in or 3.5x4.5 cm
- Photo must be uploaded in PNG or JPG format.
Passport copies - Valid passport title pages of the applicant, father, and mother
- Expired copies are not accepted.
Birth Certificate of the Applicant - The certificate has to indicate the names of the applicant, father, and mother.
Transcripts (Report Cards) - Official school records may only be emailed directly by the current school to apply@yisseoul.org
- Unofficial copies of school records may be uploaded via Openapply.
- Documents must be in English or officially translated into English and notarized.
- K-1st Grade: All available school transcripts
- 2nd-12th Grade: Transcript of the current school year plus the two previous school years
Recommendation Letter - Parents should provide the teacher’s contact information on the application website. YISS will send an electronic recommendation form directly to the teacher’s email address.
- K-5th Grade: 1 current Homeroom teacher
- 6th-12th Grade: current English teacher and Math teacher
- Non-YISS recommendation forms are not accepted.
Standardized Test Scores - K-2nd Grade: Standardized test scores are not required for applicants entering K-2nd Grade. However, please provide standardized test scores if available. Selected Kinder and 1st Grade applicants will be invited for an initial screening.
- 3rd-12th Grade: Please provide standardized test scores taken within the last 12 months. - If an applicant is coming from the US, you may upload State Standardized test results or MAP test results.
- If an applicant is coming from non-US countries, the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) result is required.
- You may take ISEE at home. Find more information and register at

- Fees range from $100 – $180, depending on the type of testing center.
